Sega Announces Release Date for it's New Sci-Fi Shooter: Vanquish

From the game director of Resident Evil 4 comes a new shooter to the Sci-Fi FPS genre: Vanquish. The release date has now been set to October 19, 2010, and will release on both consoles, the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

The games plot is as follows: you play as a guy by the name of Sam who works for the U.S Special Forces. The U.S. and Russia are at odds and are constantly fighting and bickering over the world's resources which, seeing how the game is set in the future, are vastly depleted. The U.S., to counter the energy problems, built a giant space station to absorb solar energy. However, the Russians decided that they wanted the space station too. After a short battle, the Russians took over the station, and fired the contained solar energy into San Fransisco, destroying it.

Well, the U.S. wasn't very happy about that, so they decided to send their Special Forces in order to take the space station back from the Russians.

Seeing as it's the future and there are robots everywhere, Sam is sent in with a high tech battle suit capable of superhuman dexterity and strength. The game focuses mainly on a cover to cover combat system. In fact, Sam's suit is equipped with boosters so that when you change cover, instead of simply running, he engages his boosters and does an lightning fast slide across the terrain in order to reach said cover, all while dodging enemy fire, blowing up robots, and occasionally moving so fast the entire world around him looks like it's moving in slow motion.

Look for Vanquish, with it's explosive action, crazy lasers, and super combat suits in stores on October 19th, 2010.

Activision releases Modern Warfare 2 demo.

Activision decided today to release a Modern Warfare 2 demo on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Despite being out-of-the-blue the single-player demo is quite cool as it occurs on the "Cliffhanger" level. The level is one of the better Modern Warfare 2 campaign levels and features an icy firefight and an amazing snowmobile chase scene.

It may seem pointless and late to release a demo for such a hit game but do keep in mind the recent release of Kinect and that Activision may be trying to reel in a pool of potential new gamers.

Call of Duty Black Ops to be extended to DS.

Activision has confirmed Call of Duty's entrance into the Nintendo DS realm with their announcement that there will be a Call of Duty: Black Ops for DS.

The game will be a stand-alone version differing from its home console and PC versions. It will feature a six-person multiplayer mode and two-player cooperative mode alongside additional Arcade and Challenge modes. However this all overshadows a hopeful single-player campaign mode.

Despite all those interesting features it is likely to be the integration of Black Ops with touch screen and dual screen functionality that will provide the most fun and that is the most heavily anticipated.

What's up with Starcraft 2?

Now, I hate to disappoint but I'm sorry to say that I have nothing to report today. Rather I put the microphone in your hands, reader, and I ask you to report to me. My topic today is simple and I'm very interested in hearing what my readers have to say. Simply put: What's up with Starcraft 2? I don't understand. What makes this game so great. What's all the hype for?

Discuss.
